This is
a six-hour training session that outlines prevention and intervention in
cases of abuse of children and intervention in situations of misconduct
between adults. It is intended to increase awareness regarding sexual
misconduct and abuse of power, to outline steps to take in preventing abuse, to offer ways to intervene when misconduct occurs, and equip anyone in a
position of parish leadership with ways of healing and rebuilding the body
of Christ.
The
training is required of all clergy and diocesan employees. It is also
intended all employees of congregations, for wardens, vestry members, Eucharistic Visitors (EV),
pastoral visitors, youth leaders, confirmation sponsors, retreat mentors, acolyte leaders,
choir directors, church school teachers, and volunteers working in the parish
on a regular basis. Safe Church
Training is scheduled in each deanery at least once per year; participants
are welcome at any training, regardless of location.
