    Leadership Program for Musicians

    The goals of LPM

  •  Arouse imagination and encourage creativity

  •  Identify the role of music in evangelism

  •  Explore music's ability to transform liturgy and life

  •  Increase spiritual formation of participants

  •  Develop perspectives on integrating new materials

  •  Encourage variety of style and multicultural diversity

The Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts has sponsored an LPM course since it was first offered nationally in 1995. After four successful years as a national Episcopal program, LPM added the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) as a full partner in 1999, followed by the Presbyterian Association of Musicians (PAM) in 2005. Classes across the country enroll students from a variety of church affiliations. Each location uses a standardized syllabus and a faculty of talented and committed local clergy and musicians.

    Program Schedule

The LPM course is a two-year program, meeting one full Saturday per month, September through June, for a total of twenty sessions. The class schedule is available well in advance so that students may adjust their other responsibilities in order to attend every session. Upon successful completion, participants receive a certificate awarded at a special service. We also invite the graduates' congregations to hold celebrations of their new commitment to ministry.

Cost: Tuition is $1,000 per year, for a total of $2,000, payable in four installments. Textbooks, hymnals, and other materials are estimated at $300. Students who are employed by parishes should request partial financial support (such as continuing education money). Diocesan financial assistance may also be available.

Location: Classes are held at Trinity Church. 81 Elm Street, Concord, MA 01742. We are grateful for Trinity Church's hospitality, offering as it does two different worship spaces and organs, a parish library as a meeting space and as a resource, and a choir room. At the present time there is no other LPM course being offered in New England. We welcome students who are able to travel to Concord from any New England location.
